Last week, DC Comics filed a Notice of Opposition with the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board against the attempt at federal registration of the mark “ROBYN” by hip-hop & pop music superstar Rihanna. In its filing, DC alleges that it faces “damages” in the event Rihanna is able to obtain U.S. trademark registration for the mark. The parties…
I look to bring you informative and resourceful posts every Thursday (hey, one day out of the week is better than none!) on a variety of topics from the music industry, technology, the law and everything in between. This week the focus is on music industry news resources that are important to know about if you…
Everyone wants a piece of Britney Spears. At least that’s how it appears in a recently filed complaint against the pop star’s record label, Sony Music Entertainment, its subsidiary RCA Records, and the label imprint Zomba Recording. The lawsuit alleges two claims of copyright infringement, one for the 2007 Britney Spears track “Piece of Me” and a second for Travis Porter’s…
I’m obsessed with the clean, minimalist design of the Groovemade Desktop Maple Collection. It goes really well with the Apple product design and features a pretty stellar desk lamp (click through to the product page to see it!).
I’ve only recently become familiar with the Legal Talk Network and the hefty lineup of podcasts they produce. If your searching for a new podcast, they’re likely to have something you find interesting! I thought I’d share some great clips (10-20 minutes) they’ve released covering the recent ABA TECHSHOW conference and EXPO in Chicago, IL. You can view a complete…
“Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.”

We’ve all been there. You’re at a conference surrounded by hundreds of other professionals for a networking/keynote luncheon. Your partner bailed because their client is requesting an emergency meeting and you’re left to fend for yourself. You see plenty of open seats and are trying to select the best option within view. “What am I supposed to talk about with people I don’t even know,” is quite often the number one thought running through the head of anyone who’s been put in this situation. Well, it’s time to overcome the fear of going solo at a conference event!
Do you use Flickr? They have recently come under fire for selling canvas prints and wall mounts of user-submitted photographs through their website without passing any of the profits on to the creator. Creative Commons (“CC”) licensing is allowing them to do this 100% legally.
There are a lot of different ways people use the service. I use it to store backups of photos. It also has a very robust “Advanced Search” feature, which comes in handy to find free stock photos.
What a fun episode of This WEEK in LAW, filmed on Halloween!! http://youtu.be/u2RTkT_9hKQ Lots of spooky topics discussed and fun outfits were worn by all!
On Thursday, Facebook Creative Labs unveiled the new mobile app ‘Rooms‘ for public download in the US & UK. ‘Rooms,’ with the tagline “Create Something Together,” is the company’s newest in a growing line of social apps that operate outside of the flagship “Facebook” platform. In browsing news articles covering the release, I was astonished that it is being branded as a tool for “anonymity.” An alarming number of websites are heralding the new iOS-only app as an opportunity to “go anonymous.” For a more in-depth overview of how the service works, check out this article over at The Verge.
